The
farm of Bazas Agricultural School is a separate economic structure.
It
works along with the same rules and the same constraints as a private
operator (or private company operator).
It
offers students training, applications and observation periods
together with professional realities.
The
farmhouse has four missions:
- Production, with takes into account the progressive reduction of the environmental impacts.
- Group training with students on the work of various productions: courses, practical work and discussions with professionnals
- Experimentation: variety of maïze, sweet sorghum, lucerne and meslin used to feed the cattle herd, testing the technical conduct of heifers and fattening up oxen.
- Developement and animation of the territory: popularization of practices intended to the profession and general public; awareness of sustainable agriculture; promotion of the Bazadaise breed.
Different
workshops
Cattle:
A herd of 60 suckler cows of Bazadaise breed allows the production of
red meat label, IGP “Bazas fat beef” and livestock breeding.
An
innovative, modern loose housing (free housing) for winter 2013 was
built during winter 2013 with a capacity of production and
demonstration farming.
Poultry:
28 000 poultry red label (chickens yellow South West, capons and
Guinea fowls) are produced in two barns recently automated and
enclosed in 2 hectares of grassy path.
Crop
production:
The
Area Used for Agriculture (AUA) is approximately 100 ha.
The
majority of surfaces is used to feed the cattle herd:
- grazing and maintenance of permanent grassland
- grassproduction (preserved as hay, silage or wrapped grass)
- cereal production (wheat, triticale)
- maïze production for silage or high moisture grain
or
for the litter (wheat and triticale).
The
farm is also involved in agro-environmental projects and measures and
in the preservation of the Bazadaise breed (threatened breed).
